Life Is Funny

This just jumped in my mind so I thought I would post it before it jumped out.  I hope you all enjoy it.  As always commints are welcome and appreciated.

Gil had been thinking a lot about life.  It is funny how life turns out, how something small and uneventful can impact your whole life.
Most of the time the thing you thought you wanted least turns out to evolve into the best part of life.
There was absolutely no way he wanted to go teach that year, he was in the middle of one of the most important cases of his life.  But if he had not gone he would have never meant Sara  Sidle.
He never wanted to be supervisor of anything, he just wanted to solve crimes.  But if he had not been appointed supervisor he would not be in a possession to ask her to move to Vegas.
He knew he cared for her but her being near him, their working together made him realize just how much.
He thought he was not the jealous kind but he secretly wished that each of her relationships would fail, he was glad when they did.
He remembered sitting at home one night thinking about her and realizing that not only did he care for her but he had fallen in love with her.  Then he remembered thinking how ridiculous he was being.  After all, he was her supervisor and she was serious about someone.
All this was going on right around the same time she was seeing Hank, there was rumors that she and Hank might get married.
Shortly after he found out about Hank and his fiancee, he hated himself for being glad that Sara broke up with him.
He remembered how Sara buried herself in her work.  He remembered overhearing her tell Catherine that  she had come to the conclusion that love was not worth a broken heart.
Six months after that came another one of those things that effect your life.  Gil had paired Sara and Nick on a B&E.
Nothing they had not done a million times before.  But this time would be different, this time the suspect was hiding in the house.
Jim and his men thought they had cleared the scene so Sara went to the bedroom to print the safe.
The suspect came out of the closet, grabbed Sara and was using her as a shied to get away.
He forced her into a car and took off, a mile from the house he pushed her out, never bothering to slow down.
Jim found her laying along side the road as he was chasing the burglar.
Sara lay in a coma for almost two days, ?Touch and go,? the doctor told Gil.
Gil remembered the fear he felt looking at her and knowing she may never wake up.  He remembered sitting next to her the morning she first opened her eyes, a painful smile crossed her face.
It was shortly after that he invited her to his place for dinner.  They had a drink after dinner, that was when he threw caution to the wind and confessed everything.
Image how he felt when she told him she felt the same way.
That was the first time they made love.
A year later she moved into his house.  Two years after that she became his wife.
?Gilbert!? the sound of her voice brought back to the present.  ?Where are you?? she asked.
?Thinking about how we got to where we are,? he said taking her in his arms.  She smiled.  ?I thought we were taking about the nursery,? she said.
?We were,? he said smiling at her, ?then you went to the bathroom and my mind wandered.?
They sat on the sofa, she cuddled next to him.   He told her all about what he had been thinking.
?Lord, that seems like a thousand years ago,? she said.
?Now if we don?t get these details worked out the baby will be here before her room is ready,? she told him.
?Daddy,? the blond haired blue eyed boy said as he ran into the living room where his parents sat.
?Mommy,? he said going over to them and sitting on Gil?s lap.  He leaned over and kissed Sara?s belly, ?Hi Beth.?
Nick and Sophia walked in behind the boy, ?How was the zoo?? Sara asked them as she struggled to lift herself off the sofa.
Nick took her hand and helped her up, ?It was more fun then I thought it would be.  ?I loved it,? the boy said, ? Can we have my birthday cake now??
Gil lifted his son and headed for the kitchen, ?As soon as the rest of the team gets here, Grasshopper.?
Sara thanked Sophia and Nick for taking the boy.  ?He wanted to go so bad but I ?..?
Sophia smiled at her, ?I know.  Being a week from your due date running around the zoo would not have been fun.  We were glad to do it.?
In the kitchen the boy looked at his cake, ?One - two - three - four.  Four candles.?  ?Ryan, you are so smart,? Sara told her son kissing his head.
?Can we have cake?? he asked again as Warrick, Catherine, Greg and Jim were let on the door.  Sara smiled at her son, ?Yes.?
Sara sat and watched him open gifts.  He was his father, no doubt about it.
He loved bugs and  the chemistry set his father got him for Christmas.
After their company left Sara went to lay down.
?Grasshopper and I will be fine,? Gil told her, ?You rest.?
Sara woke after a short nap, in the living room she found her husband sleeping on the couch, his son wrapped in his arms.
Sara smiled, she never pictured her life like this.  ?Gil is right,? she said to herself, ?Life is funny.?

Chapter 2

Sara walked to the kitchen, the others had helped her clean up, she was thankful for that.
Sara reached for a glass, a sharp pain pierced her side.  ?Gil!? she cried.
He sound of her voice woke him, quickly he went to her.  By now she was crying and holding her side.
?The baby?? he asked.  ?I don?t think so,? she said as he helped her to a chair.  Gil hassled Ryan into the car then gently helped Sara.  As he left he called Nick and told him what was going on.
Nick meant them at the curb, quickly took Ryan and yelled, ?Call us,? as Gil drove off.
Sara was taken straight to OB, her doctor called.  After an exam and blood work Gil was called to her room.
?It appears that Sara?s appendix needs to come out,? he said.  Sara took Gil?s hand, fear in her eyes.
?She is far enough in her pregnancy, what I intend to do is deliver the baby by cesarean and the appendix can be removed.?
?The baby?? she asked.  ?She should be fine,? he said.  ?I have called her pediatrician,? the doctor said.
Then to Gil he said, ?Now kiss your wife and get out of our way.?  Gil kissed her, ?I love you.?
He was quickly escorted out of the room.  By now the rest of the gang had heard and was waiting for him.  He explained what had happened.
?Will everything be alright?? Greg asked.  Gil shrugged his shoulders, ?The doctor seems to think so.?
Gil paced the floor, the others talked quietly among themselves.  It took no time, but to Gil it was hours, for the nurse to call him.
?Your daughter has been delivered.  The pediatrician is with her now, if you care to fallow me.?
?My wife?? he asked.  ?The surgeon has taken over, I will get hold of you as soon as we know something.?
Gil went to the nursery, Dr. Kelly handed him a pink blanket.  Gil looked at his daughter and smiled, she looked just like her mother.
?She is perfect,? Dr. Kelly said.  ?Despite the unusual events surrounding her birth.?  ?Thank you,? was all Gil could say as he held her.
?How is Momma?? the doctor asked.  ?Still waiting,? he said.
Gil kissed his daughter and lay her down, then he went to check on Sara.
?She will be fine,? the doctor said.
?She will be with us for 3 days.  Tomorrow she can have clear liquids, after that we will ease into a regular diet.   Once she is home you will need to keep an eye on the incision and make sure you notify me of anything unusual.  No heavy lifting or strenuous activity for 6 weeks.?
Gil thanked the doctor and went to Sara?s room.  He obstetrician meant him at the door, he explained the do and don?t of a cesarean.
They were almost the same as the other instructions.
Gil was sitting by her side as the anesthesia wore off.  ?Elizabeth?? she asked.
?She is perfect,? he said, ?Just like her mother.?

Chapter 3

Peace and quiet have overtaken the Grissom household.
Beth is just a little over 9 months old.
Neither she or Sara suffered any ill effects.
Sara was thrilled that she could still breast feed her little girl.
At first Ryan did not like his little sister, she cried to much and Momma could not pick him up because ?The doctor had to cut Mommy to get her out and now Mommy hurts.?
Now that she sleeps all night, is trying to learn to walk and talk and even play?s with him, he is a lot happier and glad she is around.
Ryan likes to help Mommy feed Beth now that she dose not have to use her ?you knows? any longer.  (Daddy is happy too.)
Beth was in her highchair, Ryan had given her some Cheerio?s, sliced banana and juice in her sippy cup.
Beth was babbling, Ryan was not sure what she was saying, but he was talking to her anyway.
Gil came in and kissed his daughter and son, then her put his arms around Sara and kissed her too.
?Last night was fantastic,? he whispered in her ear.  Sara smiled, he was right, it was.
?Beth and I am having Cheerio?s and Bananas,? Ryan told his dad.
?You are a big help to Mommy,? Gil told his son.
?Hon, will you have time to drop Ryan off at school?? she asked.
?Beth has an appointment today, and so do I.?
 ?Not a problem,? he said.
Sara never ceased to amaze him, he thought she would never give up the lab, the field, the job.
When she said she wanted to quit and be a stay at home Mom he was thrilled, he was just not sure she would be able to handle the transition .
Sara had found work she could do on her computer and she was helping him with a book on spiders he was writing.
?Let?s go Grasshopper,? he told his son.
Kissing his daughter he said, ?Daddy loves you Butterfly.?
?Daddy,? Beth said holding her arms out.
He picked her up and kissed her, then he sat her on the floor.
He pulled Sara close to him and kissed her.
On his way to the lab he dropped his son off at his ?school?.
Sara and Gil had enrolled him in a pre-kindergarten.
He got to work a few minutes early, he picked up a picture of Sara and the children he kept on his desk.
?Things could not be better,? he said to himself smiling.
He did not know that in less then three hours life would change drastically.

Chapter 4

Warrick, Catherine, Nick, and Amy (Sara?s replacement) gathered in his office.  Catherine and Amy had a B&E, Nick and Warrick had an unexplained death, Greg and Gil had a body of their own.
At their scene Jim told them that the mail carrier noticed that the newspapers were piling up on the porch and called the police.
The officer found the homeowner, an 86 year old, man, dead in the living room.
?Natural causes?? Greg asked.  ?Not unless you call blunt force trauma ?natural?,? Jim said.
Evidence was gathered.  ?Hey Boss,? Greg said, ?I have to go, I have court.?
?Drop that stuff off and tell them I will be along shortly,? he said.
He suddenly found himself alone, a place he is used to being and  frankly enjoyed.
He went into the kitchen, he found another blood pool and a trail.
He picked up his case and fallowed it to the shed.
The shed had not been cleared, he debated about going in, he sat his kit down and  did anyway.
The trail ended at a set of tire tracks.
It appeared that the suspect may have taken off on a scooter of some type.
He noticed a bloody bat that had been tossed in a pile of old newspapers.
He reached for it, that was when he felt a bite on his arm.  He shook his arm and noticed a Black Widow spider scamper away.
He did not panic, being the ?bug man? he knew what to do.  He tried to open the door, it would not open.
He slammed his shoulder against it, this only caused him to lose his balance and fall into the pile of newspapers, that is when the other bite took place.
?Keep your head about yourself,? Grissom said.  He opened his phone, the battery was dead, he had forgot to charge it.
He put his hand on the floor to push himself up, he was bit again.
He knew it took an hour for the pain to set in so he was not to concerned, he was sure he could figure a way out.
What he had not taken into consideration was the other two bites, which he did not feel.
The pain hit, it ran up and down his arm and leg, his muscles started to hurt.
He tried to stay calm but he realized he was in trouble.
Everything hit at the same time.  He became  nauseous, he started sweating profusely, tremors racked his body, as his breathing became labored.
He tried to hold it back but he could not, he turned his head and started vomiting.
His head started swimming the room spinning, he fell to the floor and lost consciousness.
Sara had dropped Beth off at Mrs. Robbins so she could go to her doctors appointment.
She was on her way to pick up Beth when she seen Gil?s Danali.
She decided to stop and see if he had time for lunch.
She knew better then to go inside, she called his name, no answer.
She looked around the back and seen the shed.
Watching where she stepped she headed for it.  ?Gil?? she called.
When she got to the shed she knew something was wrong.  Gil?s kit was outside the shed and a pipe had been placed in the handles.
Sara called Catherine and told her what she found.
?Go in Gil?s kit, glove up and remove the pipe and check it out.  I will call Jim and we will be right there.?
Sara gloved up and picked up Gil?s flashlight.
She removed the pipe and placed it in a bag then she opened the door.
Panic hit her as she seen him laying on the floor.  She dialed 911.
She had no idea what had happened until she seen the spider.  She called the operator again and told her what she had found.
Jim and Catherine arrived just after the ambulance did.  The operator had told them what Sara had found so they knew what they were up against.
?How is he?? Catherine asked.  ?I don?t know,? Sara said, ?I am going with him.?  In the ER the physician started an IV.
He  intravenously injected some calcium gluconate to counteract most effects of the toxin. Black widow antiserum was also given.
The doctor told Sara  the next 24 hours should tell.  Jim caught up with Sara, ?How is things??
?The next 24 hours will tell,? Sara said.
Mrs. Robbins told Sara she would keep the children so she could stay with Gil.  Sara stayed by his side, the team took turns sitting with her.
Catherine told her that the prints on the pipe matched the ones on the bat and the ones in the house.
The prints and DNA led them to a small time thug with a mile long rap sheet, mostly B&E?s.
Sara was sitting by his side holding his hand when he opened his eyes.
He squeezed her hand.  She smiled at him, ?You would think that the bug man would know better then to get bitten by a spider.?

I have a friend who has been reading my story's since I first started posting them.  She said I always have bad things happen to Sara so this chapter is for you ALLIE CAT.
