I love the book and always thought it would be a good vehicle for Petersen (maybe a little late now as after Will Graham/Gil Grissom it would sort of be typecasting). First episode makes it seem promising.http://www.vulture.com/2018/01/the-alienist-tnt-review.html

The book was great--you are right, Petersen would have been good in this!

The scene is set in the late 1800s.  According to the reviewer, women were not given any recognition as he felt they should have been.  Obviously, the reviewer does not know much about that time frame.  We know that was definitely the case in those days.
